It is looking like we will have Deval Patrick (D), Tim Cahill (I) and at least 2 Republicans going into the primary, Charlie Baker and Christy Mihos, in the upcoming election for Governor of Massachusetts. I am thinking that this could be an exciting race.

I agree and am very impressed with Charlie Baker. I just hope that there will be fewer robo-calls in November than we had in the special election in January. I look forward to the debates, but will screen all calls during the campaign - just in case. Eileen

Eileen, I have also been impressed with Charlie Baker. I generally like candidates who are reasonably fiscally conservative but who are socially liberal, regardless of which party they grow from. I hope for fewer robo-calls too!

Aye, the robo-calls actually lose votes !
Look for a huge battle over the budget in the upcoming weeks with Patrick trying to maintain levels of local aid and the state senate trying to cut it. If Duval Patrick is not seen as "bringing home the bacon" he will not stand much of a chance.

After yesterday's GOP convention, I believe Baker has improved his chances. Mihos did not get enough votes to get on the GOP primary ballot. So Baker gets to avoid infighting in the primary.

I am wondering if the election of Scott Brown will have an effect on the governor's race. When I talk to people from out of state they have this idea that Massachusetts has gone republican because of the Brown result. Are democrats embarrassed enough to wage a successful campaign to hold the governorship or will the general anti-incumbent mood of the country be a larger factor?

The polls show Patrick leading by a good margin, but with many not having formed an opinion of Baker yet. Some didn't even know who he was. Baker was in Gloucester yesterday where he met with people at the Gloucester House. He promised that if he is elected, he will become very involved in advocating for the fishing industry here.
I have wondered too, how much the national political environment will affect the governor vote here in Mass. One thing for sure, Cahill has not been doing well so far.
